About this listing
1950 Martin 00-18This is a lovely sounding, meaty yet shimmery, and particularly comfortable to play 00-18.Excellent playing condition with the wear marks common to a guitar of this age. The guitar is all original.-small top crack repaired near the pickguard.-small crack on mahogany side (treble side) (only cosmetic) Recommended to leave it alone.-brand new fret condition-wear mark on top corner/front of headstock only...treble side.Serial # 115244. An incredibly sweet sounding, early post-war war 00-18. The tuners and bridge pins are original, and the original bridge has never been modified. Add to that a perfect refret by John Wescott done 2 months ago (works on many celebrity's guitars here in L.A.) and new bone nut and bone saddle, perfect playability, and a delightfully comfortable soft V neck carve, with some of the best mahogany small-body tone imaginable. It has that Martin shimmer on top, but with the thick lower mids of a late 40's Martin. When compared to a modern iteration of a double 0 mahogany Martin guitar, there's no debate to be had. This has the desired, shifted depth only time can provide. Mahogany back and sides, Sitka spruce top, tortoise-celluloid bindings and pickguard, Brazilian rosewood bridge and fingerboard, original Kluson tuners. Classic late 1940's neck profile, with a fairly round C, moderately full feel in the first position tapering to a chunkier rounded V as you move up the neck. .83 depth at first fret. .96 depth at 12th fret. 24.9" scale length, 1-11/16"nutwidth. Set-up by John Wescott in July, this year. He really dials in the perfect nut slot height for easy playing and no buzz. The guitar has never had a neck reset, and it doesn't need one either. The neck is dead straight...with the relief measuring at 6 thousandths of an inch. John set up the guitar with low action, but no buzz. It is a joy to play. There's nothing to do setup wise. It's ready to go.Action is 2.35mm low E side at the 12th fret, and 1.85mm on the high e side. There's a small amount of natural hand wear on treble string side of neck in cowboy chord land, probably from the previous player's wedding ring. There are some scratches on the back, but purely cosmetic. The finish is completely original. The guitar has a thick and meaty tone, with a good amount of warmth, a surprising bass-end register, and the classic Martin well-aged and well opened up midrange that can happen to a 76 year old steel string. Comes with it's original geib case. Will be shipped in further, extensive packaging to ensure safe travel. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. This is one of the best sounding Martin 00's I've heard. Cheers.
