About this listing
Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rare 1950's era Electro Voice 654 model dynamic microphone with easy adjustable HIGH and LOW impedance settings. This unique microphone has the adjustable lever situated on the E.V badge and can give you that control you need over the sound characteristics. It slides smoothly and works perfectly. The tone on these mics are quite nice when working properly and this example is in excellent working condition. It comes with the original E.V suede mic sleeve shown in which to store. Pic # 2 shows this very model in a 1950's E.V catalog I have. It was a very expensive mic for it's time. It's an omni-directional mic that tens to pick up more back ground noise but the tone on these are lovely. I haven't even had a good working example of a 654 to offer in almost 3 years now. This was a favorite make and model for Dick Clark (as seen in pic # 3) and it was seen year after year on the long running show American Bandstand. I'm not quite sure when he changed out the 654 with another model but he would use this 654 for several years on every show. This was a studio quality mic and had the elongated barrel giving the mic quite a bit of length to work with. It was a radical new look when it was introduced looking very much like the modern mics of today and even came with the revolutionary XLR attachment which all mic embrace today. This was a very successful model for E.V over the past 100 years. This microphone has a stock painted tube that shows heavier wear in the form of paint chips as you can see in the pics provided. This mic came with both a black and olive drab paint scheme depending on which color you liked more. Electro Voice painted the mic as the all chrome bodies were not ideal for live T.V or televised events with the extreme glare the chrome would put off. The E.V badge looks very nice with almost no wear and the chrome lower pistol grip is quite good with just lite scratches. The mesh screen looks decent with zero dents or tarnish but there is a small dent on the bezel of the chrome tip. This 654 is an easy 7 cosmetically speaking on a scale of 1 - 10. The joint mechanism works perfectly with lots of tension. The XLR pins were cleaned as well ensuring a perfect signal once an XLR cable is attached. This 654 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have. You'll notice that the brown suede mic sleeve is included. It's in very nice physical and working condition. The 654 slides into the sleeve to protect the mic from scratches and dings. The bottom on the sleeve works great and this is a very good accessory for the mic. great for resale value as well. If you need a classic E.V mic to use for daily events such as broadcasting or singing the 654 will do you justice.
