This is about as classic as it gets. The proportions, the finish, the hardware, are all straight out of that early ’50s WFL catalog. This is a set clearly worthy of being named for the greatest drummer of all time.

The set is in astonishing condition. The pictures tell all. There are no holes, cracks, damage or modifications. The nickel lugs and rims are radiant and shiny, showing just very minor pitting in some spots. The White Marine Pearl is still vibrant white showing just the slightest has that slightly aged, creamy look that just feels right for yellowing. The floor tom finish appears very slightly brighter than the rest of the set, depending on the angle you're looking at. All the seams are tight.

Calf heads top and bottom on the toms and bass. Modern Evans Calftone 57 head on the snare.

Drums are round and edges are smooth.

There's a complete set of nickel stands included. They are functionally excellent (for the era), but show a little more wear than the lugs and hoops on the drums. All the nickel stands and cymbals in the photos are included, except for the ride cymbal. The modern throne, and bass pedal in the photos are also not included.

Sound-wise, this kit is incredibly musical. The shells breathe, the drums open up easily and really respond. The calf heads give the set the warm thuddy sound you can only get from calf skins.
