We are delighted to offer you this unusual 5-string banjo from a private collection!
This richly decorated demonstration model dates from around 1900 and is probably of American origin. The shape of the peghead is reminiscent of contemporary models by SS Stewart or Washburn. The body is unusually large at 12 1/5 inches and richly engraved.
The numerous inlays on the fingerboard and the back of the neck are also reminiscent of the design language of SS Stewart banjos. The dowel stick features an inlay with the lettering J.H. Miller. Unfortunately, there are no other manufacturer's markings or serial numbers visible.
Length 92 cm, scale length 67 cm, nut width 29 mm, body size 31 cm.
The instrument is ready to play and equipped with Nylgut strings. It is in exceptionally good condition and the neck is straight. The tuning pegs work well and hold their tune. There are some signs of age and wear, and some of the tension screws are not original.
The banjo comes in a vintage case with the inscription CSM.
