Jolana Iris T-style - 1970s - Fully Restored, Pro Setup, Play-Ready

General introduction and background:

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the famous Jolana Iris – made in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s-1980s, this was one of the most sought after and arguably one of the best guitars made in the Eastern Bloc.

This is the version with the Alnico 5 pickups.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately. But please read the description carefully!

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  628mm

-Nut: ca 41 mm

-Weight: 3,12 kg

-Pickups: two original single coils with high output, measuring at ~9,2k each, controlled with master volume and tone, and a multiway-switch allowing for bridge, neck alone and both pickups combined

-Body: probably some local wood like poplar. Partially hollowed out.

-Neck:  slim, maple, with unknown dark wood fretboard (could be ebony). Small vintage frets, very flat fretboard. Trussrod controlled by a wheel at the end of the neck.

Condition:

-Body: clearly rocked condition with many dings and dongs, touched up areas, and lacquer flaking off. Lacquer fissure in the neck pocket. Please look at the pictures.

-Neck: the neck is straight, frets are in ok condition with few crevasses; some buzzy areas, but not overly buzzy. Would rate the frets 5-6/10.

-Head: good condition

-Hardware: clear signs of corrosion on the metal parts, but all functional.

-Electrics: everything works

-Originality: non original zero fret, non original nut, non original lower two strap pins. The rest of original.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: The guitar is a good player, low string action; might not be up to modern shredding comfort, but is also not hard to play.

-Sound: The guitar offers an interesting vintage-singlecoil sound, very bold (the pickups are the best on this guitar), but due to the bridge construction the guitar doesn’t have a lot of sustain – if you need sustain, look elsewhere. It is not due to a fault, but due to the construction (the bridge is like an archtop bridge on the top). The video is from an identical model.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

-Completely cleaned

-Frets polished and fretboard cleaned/oiled

-Electronics serviced and tested for functionality

-Bridge intonation checked and dialed in

-New Pyramid 10 nickel strings put on

-Setup concluded and ready to be played (just tune it up)

Auxiliary stuff:

-no gigbag or case included. The item will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material. If you wish I can buy a fitting case at your costs.

AFTER DELIVERY: After receiving the item, please inspect the package for obvious damages and make photos if there are any. After unpacking, check the item immediately for damages or other undocumented flaws. I accept a 14 days return and will pay for shipping if the item is in a different condition than described upon arrival. Please note that I will only take the item back entirely, but not grant any reduction of price and generally only accept returns if the item was unaltered after arrival.
