"Nicholson was the trumpet protege of famous Canadian trumpet player Maynard Ferguson and performed in his band and other well known bands throughout his career. You can view Lynn playing a solo during the MacArthur Park Maynard Ferguson television special in 1974. The video is viewable on Utube. Lynn, like Maynard had the ability to hit very high notes above the staff ... he designed while playing for years in Los Angeles in Buddy Rich band, Thad/Mels band, Toshikos band and other gigs.

The last LynnZhorn, out of a total of 160, sold in January of 2019." James R. New

"LynnZhorn has a .465” bore with a 4 ⅞” bell. It comes with a basic case and 2 tuning slides, one rounded and one D shaped. Each can be inverted for a total of 4 different playing configurations. Jazz players and classical players generally prefer the D shaped slide, while lead and high note players prefer the rounded slide. With these options, LynnZhorn is almost like having 4 different horns….. " James R. New

I have one, I like it. The lead pipe is reversed and big, the bore is big, the tuning slide is rounded (it also comes with a square tuning slide which is a nice touch), and basically just plays big. It’s very free blowing for me but doesn’t exactly take “a lot” of air to play. It resonates very easily and it is decently light. The bore is about .465? Or close. A lot of horns I’ve played either take way to much air up in the upper register that it “asks” for too much and it’s hard to get my sound resonant up there. Others are too tight and you have to consciously back off because it feels like the back pressure is going to push my embouchure off of the mouthpiece (exaggeration). What’s hard is that there are less than 200 of those horns out there who knows if Lynn will make more. I do know that if you email him and you happen to be by or around Vegas, he will let you compare it to your current horn in an A/B test. You’d also get to hear him play so wear headphones because it’s like a jet engine is taking off.

All in all, I like it. It sounds very lively and has a lot of “presence” (wide sound). It speaks very easily and doesn’t push back when in the upper register or when playing loudly. Sounds like a large bore horn but feels like a medium bore. Of course this is all too me and everyone’s different. It’s only $1400 when most horns are $3000+ for a pro horn."
