Martin Size 1-26 Pre Civil War

With its compact and elegant appearance, this Martin Size 1 is a guitar that has stood the test of time beautifully. The guitar was considered a standard size guitar in the mid-19th century, and at that time it was strung with so-called 'gut strings'. With that in mind, the guitar is now strung with nylon strings.

This Martin Size 1 features the characteristic C.F. Martin New York stamps on the back of the headstock, on the heel block, and on the center strip in the body. These stamps were used on Martin's first models and therefore the guitar can be dated to the period before 1867.

The guitar features a Brazilian rosewood back and sides and a spruce top. The binding is accompanied by a purfling with a rope pattern, and the soundhole is graced by a Style 28 rosette. The cedar neck features an ebony fingerboard and rosewood headstock overlay.

This Size 1 is in good condition considering its age. The top and body have some repaired cracks, but the guitar is stable and easy to play. The guitar is a beautiful piece from Martin's rich history, and is an asset to any guitar collection.
