Presenting Yamaha’s 'Holy Grail'
CA-2010. Yamaha’s top of the line integrated
amp when it was introduced in the late 1970's. They are highly sought after
and hard to find today.
All controls function and have been tested. The Yamaha CA-2010 comes in a lovely wooden case, a clean, minimalist aesthetic that looks stylish even 40 years on and the classic 1970’s build-quality is obvious.
This amplifier clearly means business! It has a range of features typical of Japanese amplifiers from this era including tape loops, tone controls, filters, MM/MC phono preamp, switchable class-A operation, power and record level metering and more. The front controls are hard-wired, board mounted and high-quality. The amplifier has two modes of operation – class A and class-A/B. In class-A mode, the amplifier delivers 30 Watts per channel. In class A/B mode it delivers a solid120 Watts per channel into 8ohms.
Power output: 120 watts per channel into 8Ω Frequency response: 5Hz to 50kHz Total harmonic distortion: 0.005% (better than Yamaha’s new amps) Damping factor: 45 Input sensitivity: 0.5mV (MC), 2mV (MM), 120mV (line) Signal to noise ratio: 71dB (MC), 82dB (MM), 100dB (line) Output: 120mV (line), 1V (Pre out) Dimensions: 461 x 360 x 170mm Weight: 48lbs
One small issue I'm aware of: sometimes the left channel will cut out after turning it on. It's easily remedied by the time-honored method of turning the input control back and forth a few times; after which it runs fine. I consider this a minor issue, considering it's age and an easy repair for a qualified tech. Everything in this amplifier is serviceable and parts are readily available. Please be aware that this is a vintage unit and is sold 'as is'. Thus I cannot offer a warranty nor accept returns.
