I bought this years ago. It is an extremely rare (as in, one of a kind) prototype PRS guitar.
1 piece mahogany body with beautiful grain 3 Fralin Domino pickups
Remember when Lindy Fralin made his Domino pickups? In 1993, PRS put those Dominos in their EG-II model. At the same time - 1993 - the PRS folks were considering this model; basically, a Standard, but instead of 2 humbuckers, it would have 3 Domino pickups. Instead of this turning into a production model, they only made this one. A true prototype.
100% stock.
Long ago, I sent Sean at PRS some photos.....he shared them with the PRS folks.....and basically got back to me saying "that is amazing; we had forgotten we made that guitar. Nice heirloom!"
This particular guitar has a crack in the headstock finish (NOT a headstock break). The crack is in the finish, but not in the wood. I've taken a photo of it. Also, on the main body, there is a 1-inch "rash", again, photographed. Some miscellaneous scratches and dings, not that severe.
Overall, significantly better than a "player."
Frets show minimal wear.
this rare guitar weighs 8 pounds, 11 ounces
the neck carve is 'probably' a wide-fat, but I can't be totally sure
The 3 Domino pickups have a lot of high end, a lot of that sparkle that was the intent of the EG-II. With this Prototype, the airiness has more meat to it, given that it's a solid mahogany body with a set neck (totally different than the EG-II).
One thing I'll add; I've noticed that photographing red guitars is very tough. The photos always turn out "flat." So, these photos don't do the guitar justice. This particular piece of mahogany has beautiful grain, plus, it is a 1 piece body! One solid piece of mahogany.
Comes in what I believe is a Artist case.
Will be well packed up and will show up ready to Amaze and Impress your friends! : )
