With EVH, the brand he created to bring his own vision of the perfect instrument to life, Eddie set out to make guitars directly inspired by the instruments that shaped his signature sound more accessible, while retaining the essential features of his most iconic designs. This Wolfgang Special in Black perfectly embodies that philosophy. Developed around Eddie Van Halen's own requirements, it features a particularly refined construction, combining a basswood body with a quartersawn maple neck reinforced by two graphite rods for excellent stability. Its asymmetrical Wolfgang neck profile provides a natural, comfortable feel, while the Birdseye maple fingerboard adds a distinctive touch of visual character. The compound 12"–16" radius is equally well suited to comfortable chord playing, fast runs and wide bends in the upper register. The two EVH Wolfgang humbuckers deliver a powerful, precise and highly dynamic tone. They truly excel in high-gain territory, offering strong mids, impressive definition and that remarkable ability to bring out artificial harmonics that became such a defining feature of Eddie's playing. The three-way selector provides a wide range of tonal possibilities, from thick, punchy rhythm sounds to expressive lead tones, with plenty of additional versatility available through the volume control. The tremolo system is equally impressive, featuring an EVH locking Floyd Rose bridge complemented by the famous D-Tuna, allowing you to switch instantly from standard low E to Drop D tuning without compromising tuning stability. A particularly useful feature for players who enjoy expressive techniques and quick tuning changes. This first-generation model therefore has plenty going for it, with a construction faithful to the spirit of the original Wolfgang guitars and a particularly generous specification. A guitar with plenty of character, equally at home delivering crushing high-gain tones or more melodic passages. A natural choice for fans of the Van Halen sound, but also an excellent instrument for any guitarist looking for outstanding performance, comfort and a truly distinctive personality.
