As Andy Martin explains in the video above, the new Kangra Filter Fuzz "is a really interesting blend of fuzz and filter" that's "loaded with modern fuzz, vintage octave up, and envelope filter tones in a compact and artful design."
Taking some cues from the Kay Fuzztone, Walrus worked with Fuzztone fan Jared Scharff, the guitarist for Saturday Night Live, to create their take on the circuit, with plenty of added features.
The Kangra Filter Fuzz has two independent channels—filter footswitch on the left, fuzz on the right—with the filter being able to be run by itself or after the fuzz. The combined result is a dirty, aggressive lead tone that can be further tweaked by a collection of knobs and switches.
The mid switch can be used to select between flat or scooped mid-range frequencies, while the modern or vintage switch lets you choose between more- or less-stable octave fuzz tones. The envelope switch engages the pedal's auto filter, with its own sensitivity, resonance, and frequency knobs. When the envelope filter is off, you can use the filter as a low-pass.
