Gear from Dead Can Dance's Brendan Perry Lands on Reverb

With Dead Can Dance and as a solo artist, Brendan Perry is revered for his ability to conjure majestic sounds that draw as much from his post-punk roots as they do traditional music.

In his Ker Landelle Studios in France, he's a meticulous recordist and multi-instrumentalist, using everything at his disposal—guitars, sequencers, and sample libraries—to craft his songs and soundscapes. And after four decades of recording and touring the world, Dead Can Dance have amassed a considerable collection of instruments and equipment. Due to an overcrowding studio, it was time to make some space.

Today, Perry has listed a great batch of studio- and stage-played gear in The Official Dead Can Dance Reverb Shop.

"It’s really wonderful to see these musical instruments gain a new lease of life and continue to inspire future generations of musicians," Perry says.

The shop includes a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom that Perry bought on London's Denmark Street in the early '90s. "I always wanted a Les Paul like Mick Ronson’s but could not afford a ’68 model, so this was the next best thing I could find at the time," Perry writes in the listing description. "This guitar features heavily on my solo album Eye of the Hunter, on the tracks 'Death Will Be My Bride' and 'The Captive Heart.'"

He used 1991 Aria LW 12T 12-String extensively in live shows. The very first 12-string he bought, it served as "the inspiration for some of my most popular songs including 'American Dreaming,' 'Medusa,' 'Don’t Fade Away,' and 'I Can See Now,'" he writes. "This guitar used to go everywhere with me, holidays, Irish pub sessions, concerts, and was used extensively on Dead Can Dance’s live concert film and album Toward the Within."

In addition to guitars and more exotic string instruments like a Turkish Saz Baglama Cogur and a Greek Pegasus Trichordo Bouzouki, Perry is also selling great electronic music equipment. These items include an E-Mu Systems Proteus Virtuoso 2000 sound module used on many Dead Can Dance tours and the album Into the Labyrinth and the Virtuoso 2000's larger cousin, the Proteus 2500, along with an Akai MPC2000XL, an Eventide Eclipse V4 effects processor, and an E-Mu Systems Vintage Keys rackmount synth.
