Last week, Claude Young kicked off his DJ Tricks series by demonstrating how to balance a turntable tone arm and mark records to stay organized during a performance. This week, Claude joins us in the studio to go over basic cuing and mixing.
Claude opens the lesson with the most pressing concern a DJ can have: you're spinning one track, it's sounding good, but that track is coming to a close. What happens now? Claude walks us through his process of cuing up and bringing in the next song—including some need-to-know tricks like using the EQ to cut the bass out of the finishing track.
"That's always a quick and easy way to get out of a sticky situation. If you're working on it, drop the bass out, and just roll into your next track," he says.
