The general assembly positive disintegration is an interpretation of a particularly rude JFET overdrive circuit paired with a envelope-follower block that dynamically alters the bias of a gain stage ("sag") to destroy the output signal in response to the input signal's amplitude.
The top controls are straightforward:
- LEVEL: Output volume.
- FILTER: RAT-style tone control.
- GAIN: Dual potentiometer that sets the gain of two series JFET stages. Warm, rounded — clean, overdrive, distortion, blown out tweed.
The DETERIORATION panel contains the heart of the circuit:
- DEPTH: Interactive with GAIN and LIMIT. Sets how extreme the effect of the voltage sag.
- MASS: Light (star) or heavy (void) sag.
- MODE: UP — sag is active (momentary off with left footswitch); DOWN — sag is inactive (momentary on with left footswitch).
- LIMIT: Determines the sensitivity of the envelope follower. Turn CW for more sensitive (i.e., easier to trigger) sag.
Note: The red LED provides visual indication that the DETERIORATION is active; use it as a guide when adjusting the DEPTH and LIMIT controls.
Right footswitch is bypass; left footswitch is the momentary control (determined by MODE switch setting). The effect is true bypass.
