My EX-8000 was a hidden gem of the mid-80s, overshadowed by the hype for digital and perfect recreations of physical instruments. It used special single-cycle waveforms that were either generated or re-synthesized from samples. They are NOT romplers. While they have the knobless interface characteristic of the period, it's programming is surprisingly straightforward with the parameter list laid out in front of you ...(and there is an excellent editor for it called Patch Base ...available online from Coffeeshopped). The sound of the DWGS oscillators through the SSM filters is what makes this synth so desirable. The 8000 also features both velocity and channel pressure sensitivity, so it is a very expressive instrument. Add in the 5 stage (yep) envelopes and the "auto bend" which allows automatically sweeping the oscillator without sacrificing an envelope, and it's a rich, flexible 'digi-log' synthesizer, able to create both very warm, fat, buttery analog tones, as well more obviously digital, edgy, bight-ing, even bell-like tones as well. The built-in delay is so good - it's considered a vintage-delay these days of course, and just adds so much to the sounds and the overall vibe of the synth.
I'm drastically reducing the size of my setup and have to part with an old friend. This unit has been indoors, in non-smoking environments. It has a bit of wear from being shuffled into various racks about the studio, but is on overall good shape (as the photos show). It was recently professionally inspected and battery checked. It comes with its kinda-unique-to-the-time 2-prong power cable. Also included ...the original Korg factory sounds on cassette!
...honestly though, I cannot verify the data on the cassette ...no way to test it, but I have it so it comes with the EX8000.
(The Youtube video isn't mine but gives a good sense of the kinds of sounds this beauty makes)
