This exceptional vintage violin, crafted by Johann Georg Hellmer in 1764, showcases the fine craftsmanship of the renowned German-born, Prague-based luthier. Born in Waltenhofen, Germany, in 1687, Hellmer was a pupil of Thomas Edlinger and worked in Prague circa 1720 to 1770. His violins, often inspired by the Amati and Klotz models, are known for their exquisite workmanship and distinctive diminutive scrolls.

The one piece back and ribbing are made of a beautiful maple, with a top plate made of spruce. This violin features a distinct orange-brown varnish with a rich patina, adding to its historical charm. The violin produces a rich tone developed over more than 260 years of use.

This vintage violin is in used, playable condition. This well loved historic instrument has previously repaired cracks on the top and bottom plate and at the base of the pegbox. Please review all photos for condition details. This is an old item and there are marks due to normal use over 260 years.

Hellmer's instruments are historically significant, with Beethoven famously owning a violin made by him in 1737. A historic and beautiful instrument, ideal for collectors, musicians, and lovers of fine craftsmanship.
