Note: Be sure to check out the video for a more detailed description and to hear this guitar in action!
This Howie Griffin Series 12-string has a 24-fret fingerboard with a 25-inch scale length. The Bocote fretboard has a compound radius of 15.45 inches at the tail down to 9.55 inches at the nut.
The Shape of the neck is what we call the Howie Medium Line. At the nut the depth is 0.92 inches and at the 12th fret it is 0.94 inches. It’s not super thin like the 1960s Gibson ES 330s but it’s definitely not super fat like an old school Les Paul. It’s somewhere in the middle. It has a very fast and easy feel. The width at the nut is 1.67 inches, and at the tail it is 2.16 inches making it a fairly thin span higher up on the fretboard.Because this Griffin is a 12-string it’s a bit heavier at 8lbs. Still...compare this to the average Les Paul that can weigh up to 10lbs.
The pickups on this guitar are Seymour Duncan’s Jazz model on the neck and 59 custom hybrid on the bridge. The Jazz pup is Seymour Duncan’s most popular neck pickup. It has a beautiful “glassy” tone. The 59 custom hybrid is a mix with one coil from the medium output 59 model and one coil from the high output Duncan Custom. The two pair together beautifully and give you the best of both worlds with rich harmonics in the upper midrange.
The finish on this guitar was done with a catalyzed urethane that is normally used on automobiles. This high-end urethane dries very hard allowing fewer coats and a thinner finish.
As usual with all our guitars, this guitar was built by me, the sole builder, from start to finish. It was also built mainly by hand with a little help from our small CNC machine for things like the inlays and the Fibonacci violin carve on the top.
This guitar comes with a hardshell dreadnought case that is custom made with inserts to fit the body perfectly.
