This is a real rarity!
Arbiter Soundimension, a short-lived magnetic drum echo made in England in the 1960s. Lots of great information can be found here: .
Most of the original germanium transistors have been replaced, with high-quality Russian germanium transistors of the same hFE. All capacitors have been checked and the ones on the power board have been replaced. Finally, the dodgy old-style power connector has been replaced with a modern Neutrik one, and the mains cable is included.
This is not a high-fidelity echo: The repeats are fairly dark, but they are full of character. It is a very unique echo that produces a very appealing soundscape, not like anything I have used.
Unfortunately I don't have a proper amp at the moment to test this, but the last time I used it on a tube amp (i.e. last year) everything was working. When I just tested it on a Yamaha THR5, there was a steady background hiss, I don't know if this is because it s a modelling amp. Listed as 'poor' because of this, just in case. But the motor runs as it should and is quiet, and all controls are doing their thing, although the level control is a bit scratchy. The magnetic paint on the disk is still in great condition.
Sad to see this one go, but needs be, and I hope someone else will enjoy it as much as I did.
