Jeffey Yong is a well-known Malaysian luthier who is praised for his craftsmanship and eye for detail. He is known for his unique approach to guitar making, combining traditional techniques with innovative designs. Yong's guitars are distinguished by their rich tone, exceptional playability and aesthetic appeal.
Born and raised in Malaysia, Yong developed a passion for musical instruments at a young age. His curiosity about how guitars work and his dedication to perfecting his craft led to a career in guitar making. He set up his own workshop, where he crafts each instrument by hand, often using locally sourced woods known for their unique tonal characteristics.
The name JJ stands for Jeffrey Jumbo, and is a cross between a Jumbo and a classical guitar. This JJ Special has a back and sides made of Malaysian Blackwood and a spruce top. Beautiful details such as the rope purfling and the wood-inlaid rosette give the guitar an even more special appearance. The sound of the guitar is rich in bass due to its large size, but is also all-round and suitable for most musical styles.
This JJ Special was built in 2003 and is in very good condition. The guitar has some repaired cracks in the back of the body and has playwear consistent with a 21 year old guitar. Delivered with TFOA passport in a hardshell case.
