1973 Celestion G12H-30 Greyback Speakers T1281 55hz Pulsonic Cones 30 Watt RARE PAIR

An original pair of 1973 Rola Celestion G12H-30 T1281 30 watt 16 ohm "greenback" speakers, perfect working condition. Both have original Pulsonic 55hz cones, codes "4". Both have factory corrective stickers on the impedance labling on the magnet covers. This is original an not a sign of modification. Relatively common with Celestions These are some of the last of the Pulsonic cones that were ever made. Greybacks are effectively the same as the later greenback era. Still retaining the sought after pulsonic cones but having a Grey magnet cover. Some of my favorite sounding G12H and G12M were Grey backs coincidentally. These are used over 50 year old vintage speakers that are in perfect working condition and sound AMAZING. These have no holes, tears, rips and the voice coils are not rubbing. The most minor edge dimples can be seen on them but this has no real effect on sound. The cone rim edges are still very strong. I did test these prior to listing with a guitar signal and a frequency sweep and they sound great. Just as you would expect. Date codes stamped on leg. See pictures for date codes. Manufactured 1973. What are Pulsonic cones? The pulsonic cones first appear around mid 1962, most notably on the T530 “vox blue“. They are easily the most sought after cones by guitarists because they have a superior quality to their tone that cannot be found in any other speaker cone. Their slightly softer and more ‘fluid’ sound is particularly popular with blues and classic rock guitarists. These cones are highly collectible due to their association with all the legendary guitar players of the period such as Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles, and their use in the old 60’s Marshall and Vox amplifiers. Legend has it that the Pulsonic factory burnt down in late 1973 and with it went the magic formula for making those sweet sounding cones. Even today nobody has successfully managed to replicate them, though several boutique brands have tried, as well as Celestion themselves with their Heritage greenback range.
