This is a very rare and well kept beauty from Germany right after the WW2 from master Luther Otto Meindl; Otto Meindl was born 14.10 - 1881 in Markneukirchen and died 24.09-1957.
He learned the trade 1896-1899 by Wilhelm Kessler and worked there untill 1902. He then worked for Max Rorarius from 1902 to 1908, when he started for himself and "graduated" as master.
He made guitars, mandolins and lutes. In the adressbook (1932) , he was registered as lutemaker at wernitzgrüner strasse 26, Markneukirchen.
This guitar was acquired from a well known Dutch Gypsy Jazz family wich had been in their collection for over 50 years.
The guitar is beside from a treat to the eye also a real treat to the ear and the player. It plays great, the neck is arrow-straight and the frets look original with a lot life left.
The sound is real vintage jazz and great resonating solid woods. For a played on and still playable guitar of this age the condition is very good. Could be in a museum as well as on a stage being played.
Real art-deco design with marvelous playability. Very rare and maybe the only Otto Meindl to be known to still exist.
A small crack was repaired on the top of the body, from the right f-hole down to the edge. The Pickguard has been made more durable / strong with a added piece of wood on the back of it. Can't really tell if this is original but I think it is worth mentioning. See pictures.
No other repairs have been done other than maybe a decent neck reset. But it is hard to tell as it would have been done many (+50) years ago.
The back and sides have some marks and scratches in the laquer but nothing serious that you couldnt expect from an original finish guitar of this age.
The tuners and hardware are all original except from the newer nut.
This guitar comes with a new hardcase.
