This is left-handed Jazz Bass, built in 1982 but has '78 serial number. Read on for details. Has new Fender Custom Shop '60s pickups; the originals are included (see photo with the gray and red pickups). Everything else is original but the pots (I only have one original that will be included). The bass is now wired with nice CTS pots in Vol/Balance/Tone configuration. Nice, usable taper on all pots. The original case is not in good shape, but will be fit for shipping and for collecting/value purposes. The neck is arrow straight and the bass is set up with low action -- it can go as low as anybody could possibly want. Ready to play.
Unique things about this bass:
-This is basically a late '70s specs Jazz Bass but it's lightweight, being around 9 lb
-Has an amazing soft V carve on the neck that is hard to come by. As comfortable and inviting as a Jazz neck can be.
-Great original frets. They show normal wear but have plenty of life left on them.
-Has white binding on the fretboard but dots markers, no blocks.
I've had this bass for about 10 years and it has been nothing but pride and joy. It shows normal wear for a bass this age. Has its share of nicks and scratches and real patina. The neck surprisingly has no nicks on the back whatsoever.
A bit of background on this bass: 1982 was a transitioning year for Fender. They were phasing out the '70s production, hence, many instruments built in '81 and '82 have '70s serial numbers and used late-'70s leftover parts. The pickups, pots, and sticker under the pickguard all have '82 numbers, but the serial number is a '78 sticker. All these elements have been documented in various Fender books. This bass is a gem in playability and sound.
Please contact me if you'd like to hear samples of this bass. I have a nice Spotify list available but the link won't show here.
And please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
Thanks
