The Gold Stratocaster was a smart way to come up with something new, without retooling in any way. Anounced in June 1981 as a limited edition in the collectors series. this model is basically a combination of parts feauturing:

THE STRAT body and a one piece maple neck. With its (atrophied) smaller peghead. The regular stratocatser pick-up assembly with a 3-ply white pickguard and white knobs. gold plated Brass hardware, as offered in the standard "Brassmaster series" introduced in 1980. According to Fender the hardware was also coated with 100 micron gold coat. Very Snazzy! For that reason it was rumoured that the company losy money on every Unit Sold. this expensive detail also brough about its current nickname - The Gold/Gold Strat!

Not too long ago I had a really cool 80 Pre Smith Strat in stock. Sometimes I get on a winning streak and get a run of similar guitars. Serendipity I guess. The body is nicely figured alder which means a bright snappy tone. The maple neck features a maple fingerboard and 21 frets.  A trio of early plastic bobbin single coils pump out big tone through the factory five way switch. A gorgeous Gold Relic finish adorns this beauty. Deeper than many I’ve seen, and authentically played and aged. All original down to the electronics, pots and pickups, this one is jake. All date markings and decals are intact. Cool and rare factory white plastic too. A really hip Strat that is unique and quite attractive. The guitar also comes with the original Fullteron Hardcase, Original purchase reciept from 1982 and the Fender Manual!

This Strat has hip vintage feel and nice tone. The neck is straight. The frets show normal wear but play fine. The pickups and electronics sound good. It shows Moderate wear as you would expect from a 37 year old vintage piece. A bit of checking, scratches, chips, dents and normal wear. Not mint but groovy for a player and a cool bar guitar vibe. would also suit a collector given all the included paraphernalia.

This is one of the more stunning Strats I’ve had in stock in recent memory. The Gold finish looks cool and the whole vibe is quite unique. Early 80s Strats have been coming on strong in recent months thanks to relative rarity and a look that you don’t see every day. Get one while you can afford it.
