About This Listing

UPDATE 1/18/18: Interested buyers encouraged to submit offers, let's work a deal! 90 day Lay-away terms are no problem! I've shipped vintage drums all over the world, buy with confidence!

Vintage 1972 Sonor Deluxe Rosewood Drums 22" x14", 16" x 16", 13" x 9", 12" x 8" sizes + Sonor Hi-Hat stand, cymbal stand, snare stand, and bass drum mounted cymbal stand, all in fully functional factory original condition except replacement drumheads, floor tom legs, replaced hidden set screws for bass drum spurs, and overall is in 9 to 9.5 out of 10 condition.

These made in Germany professional quality drums are laminated beech wood with brazilian rosewood exterior veneer with very high quality chrome plated hardware. Each drum shows a clear date stamp and each drum has it's factory original rims, lugs, tension screws, and tone control mufflers.

I am indebted to Sonor Drums historian and collector Chris Beytes for his vintage Sonor accessories knowledge and Mr. Henk Claessen for his knowledge and collection of Sonor historical information, company documents, and library of pictures of rare and collectible Sonor drums and encourage anyone who visits this Reverb listing to also check out his website: VintageSonorDrums.com

This particular set of brazilian rosewood drums were purchased new from a Pro Drum shop in Minnesota in 1972 direct off the showroom floor and has been well maintained and stored in padded cases ever since. This is a 1 owner drumset. The 1972 Sonor price list shows that these rosewood finish drums could only be purchased individually through dealer special order at a premium additional price over standard 1972 finishes. The snare stand, cymbal stand, and hi hat stand are not original to this set of drums but are Sonor brand and 1970s era. Overall there are very small witness marks on chrome plating from set-up and tear down of these drums through the decades and a few very small handling marks in rosewood veneer finish but these imperfections are minor and difficult to photograph. The floor tom legs are not original sorry but they are very high quality vintage Rogers brand installed by the owner many years back. Although the floor tom legs are not original they match the kit beautifully.

Brazilian rosewood finish drums were Sonor's top of the line offering in 1971 and 1972 and represent the final teardrop lugged rosewood finish drums sold (1973 Sonor switched to square shape Champion lugs). A screenshot showing comments from legendary drummer Tim Griffin talking about these drums (via social media thank you Tim!) It is worth noting that many famous drummers of the early 1970's played Rosewood Sonor drums in addition to Tim Griffin including Jack DeJohnette, Bernard Purdie, and Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann who played the same size rosewood drums as what is available for sale here.

These neat old drums are owned by my retired neighbor Gary and are being sold on consignment. Price shown is the 2017 inflation equivalent of what these drums cost new in 1972 but we are ABSOLUTELY HAPPY to take offers here through Reverb.com (please and thank you) and each offer will be considered and replied back to.

We are happy to offer 90 day Lay-away terms for prospective buyer as well. Additionally, we're more than happy to take additional photos of any particular area of these drums and honestly answer any and all questions from prospective buyers. Lastly, we're happy to negotiate the purchase of these fine vintage drums with current installed Evans drumheads or replace heads with heads of buyer's choosing. Let's make a deal!

Museum quality collectors grade professional drums, you won't be disappointed!

Due to high UPS & FEDEX rate increases, I now prefer to ship USPS. I've successfully packaged and shipped vintage musical instruments and drums many years and will ensure professional packaging and full insurance of shipment. Due to federal government regulations regarding brazilian rosewood it is highly doubtful these drums could be shipped internationally without issues so obviously please reach out to me so we can work something out if you're an international prospective buyer. Drums come with padded nylon bags in used but good fully functional condition.

Thank you for your interest, message me with questions. My name is Dutch.
