Up for sale is a 1969 Harmony H927 parlor sized acoustic guitar. I have completed extensive work to bring this guitar back to life and to make it player ready.
My Work Included:
• Removed loose and cracked back, cleated cracks and reglued loose back braces (see "before" photo)
• Reset neck angle some by "slipping the block" upon reassembly of back to body
• Realigned strings by removing and reinstalling tailpiece in proper location
• Shimmed original cutdown bridge and recapped with maple for better tone and proper string action
• Reseated original nut and cut nut slots to proper height
• Leveled, dressed and polished all frets
Specs:
Total length = 36 1/4"
Scale length = 24 3/16"
Lower bout width = 13 1/4'
Upper bout width = 9 1/2"
Body depth = 3 3/4"
Nut width = 1 13/16"
Body wood = Solid birch
Neck wood = Poplar?
Fingerboard wood = Stained maple?
Nut = Original plastic
Bridge = Dyed maple
Strings = D'Addario lights (0.053-0.012)
String action at 12th fret = 6/64" at bass side, 5/64" at treble
Sound/Feel:
Has that old-timey/bluesy tone to it most definitely. Mail order birch guitars have their own sound/vibe. Plays equally well for fingerpicking and flatpicking/strumming. With the low action from the improved neck angle and light strings it is really easy to play. Nice size, sits in your lap comfortably.
Condition:
Structural: After my work this guitar is structurally sound. The two back cracks have been securely cleated and loose braces reglued. I also added a 2" screw to the neck joint from the inside for added insurance to the neck joint (pictured). There is a small gap between the neck heel and body. I believe this was from the factory neck set. Before and after adding the screw the neck is perfectly stable and has been for over a month with strings on it. Cosmetics: This is really a pretty clean guitar for its age. The top looks great. The one exception is some finish damage where a previous owner glued down the floating bridge (pictured). I sealed this blemish with amber shellac. The back, sides and headstock have typical bumps and minor scratches (aka the mojo). The finger board with its painted fret markers and headstock look great!
What you get:
You are getting a fully playable solid wood 1960's Harmony made guitar that has had a lot of repair work done to it. It's ready for your playing enjoyment! It will be packed carefully, insured and shipped out quickly with Canadapost/USPS. No case included.
Thanks for looking and please let me know if you have any questions!
