Simon Marty began building guitars in 1982 because, as a guitarist, he was interested in exploring new approaches to luthiery that could lead to significant improvements in sound performance. The results of these endeavors were powerful-sounding, responsive, and well-balanced instruments. His guitars are played by many well-known guitarists such as Anabel Montesinos, Scott Tennant, Mak Grgić, and Slava Grigoryan to name a few.  This Simon Marty classical guitar is built by the noted Australian luthier who uses radial bracing of the spruce top to create his signature sound--bold, yet sweet sound. It was built in conjuction with Robin Moyes, another world class Australian Luthier to construct a very special guitar for the legendary Slava Grigoryan!

Luthier Robin Moyes started making guitars professionally in the 1970s and has gone on to build instruments for players such as Slava Grigoryan, Leonard Grigoryan, and Tommy Emmanuel.... Robin also has decades of experience doing adjustments, modifications, repairs, and restorations on classical and acoustic guitars. Robin is a pioneer of hand-crafted guitar building in Australia, gaining him considerable national and international recognition for his craft.

To have Simon, or Robin build you a guitar you'll have to take a number as they have and extremely long wait list due to their well known and highly sought after builds. Now to get the 2 of them to collaborate together and build one like this is likely next to impossible. They are known to occasionally collab, maybe once every couple years so this a rare piece as it is, but this particular Classical hybrid was made for World Renowned guitarist Slava Grigoryan, who is seen holding it on the cover to his album "Another Night In London". Slava played and toured with this guitar for a good 12+ years and we honored to have it here at our shop for your consideration to add this fine instrument to your collection. Check out our embedded YouTube video we made of this guitar so you can hear it and see it a little bit more in depth. If you'd like to see and hear the legendary Slava play this guitar then just copy and paste  this:  into your Google search bar.

Slava was raised in Melbourne. He began to study guitar with his father at the age of 7. By the age of 12 he was performing professionally and made his solo debut in Sydney at 14. He attended Caulfield Junior College and St Michael's Grammar School, during which time he studied with Ron Payne, and at the Victorian College of the Arts.  Following his win at the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition, where he was the youngest finalist in the history of that competition, Slava Grigoryan signed with Sony Music Entertainment in 1995 for whom he released four solo albums. At the age of 18, his first tour was with guitar legends Paco Peña and Leo Kottke. he has toured extensively in Australia, Europe, North America and Asia.  Slava Grigoryan has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the , , , Royal Scottish National Orchestra to name a few.

In addition to his achievement in the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition, Slava Grigoryan has won a number of awards including Young Australian of the Year for the Arts in 1998, the Mo award for Instrumentalist of the Year in 2001. In 2000 he appeared as a soloist with the  and was part of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Arts Festival.

The ARIA Music Awards are presented annually from 1987 by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Slava Grigoryan won the ARIA Award for Best Classical Album for "Sonatas & Fantasies" in 2002 and for Bach: Cello Suites Volume I in 2017. Saffire won the same category in 2003 for their debut album, "Saffire". He has received 16 nominations, either on his own, as a member of Grigoryan Brothers, or shared with other artists (often including his brother Leonard).
