Vintage Collapsible Barry-style bass drum, 1920's-30's, sounds great

A pretty rare collapsible Bass Drum from the 1920's / 30’s, probably made by Carlton in the UK.  It is very similar to the American "Barry" folding bass drum but with the advantage of spring-loaded tensioners so the front and back skins can be tensioned independently.  It also benefits from small integral folding spurs.

The oval carrying case is original, and the case handle is, er, very original :).  Instructions for assembly are in the lid, there is no damper  or pedal, and the size is 14 x 28 inches.  Both skins are in pretty good nick. Packed total weight is 10 kilos, case outer dimensions are 60x50x30cm.

As to provenance, it was owned by a drummer who almost certainly played at the Savoy/Claridges/Berkley hotels in central London in the 1920’s/30’s.  There is no makers name visible, but there is the remains of a painted logo with a red diamond in the centre, and the initials (almost certainly) "SMIC" in the four corners.  Possibly a military outfit?
