Here I have a 2018 James Tyler Studio Elite HD in an earth-shatteringly cool Alien Guano Shmear finish... AKA "your next favorite guitar".
I've had this one for a bit over a year now, and it's a truly "next level" Tyler, which is saying something because every Tyler I've owned has been pretty damn special. I cut down my collection of USA Tyler's from 9 down to 2, with this one and an HSS Psych Vomit being the best of the bunch. I always fancied this one a "Keeper", but recently decided I'd list it for sale in pursuit of another guitar I'm after. So let's get on with the important stuff:
This solid Alder body with full quarter-sawn Maple neck provides such a nice cut through the mix with the gloriously voiced Tyler JTE Soapbar P90 pickups. You've got your Mid-boost switch with mid-boost sweep potentiometer to really supercharge your tone. This guitar absolutely loves going straight into an amp with an edge-of-break-up tone setting, where you can play clean with the volume rolled down slightly, then turn it up for some crunchy chording, THEN hit the mid-boost for some outrageously smooth OD tones. Double P90's on a Tyler SE? Too cool!
I've played this guitar through several different styles of tube amps and it absolutely shines through each of them. Even through a digital system like a Kemper or Helix, the tonal variety is absolutely endless. The neck pickup is fat, juicy, and full of complex harmonic language that shines through depending on how you have the guitar controls set. I especially love to have the tone around 5 or 6 with the volume at around 8, then use the mid-boost knob to sweep gain in and out... The tones are just ridiculous! The bridge pickup is, of course, no slouch either. Crunchy rock tones roll off the fretboard and aren't too much of anything, but leave absolutely nothing to be desired. The middle position provides and wonderfully chewy tone with the tone knob rolled back, and brightens up beautifully with it all the way up. From Les Paul to Strat to Tele, this gal can cover it all with a bit of fiddling with the knobs, without you missing anything.
Can't beat a shmear finish - much less an Alien Guano shmear finish! It's one of those guitars that'll make you open up the case to take a peek at it when you walk past your guitar room, just to get a look at it. It's not often you see a P90 Tyler, or one in an Alien Guano Shmear, or one with Tyler's famous "Exp-logo" at the headstock. This one has it all, with a semi-gloss finish that will keep it looking new, unlike some matte finished Tyler's that start to get shiny spots at the arm contour and under the strings. Conditionally, this one remains in near-new condition. It has been absolutely babied its entire life.
The Standard '59 neck is an absolute joy to play. It's got some chunk, but the round profile is supremely comfortable all the way up the neck. If you're into R9's, you will LOVE this profile. Soft, rounded fretboard edges, luscious satin finish and immaculate fretwork make Tyler's trademark phrase "Either You Know Or You Don't" an absolute reality. Check out the spec sheet for more some specifics on the neck measurements.
Comes with OHSC, all the paperwork and candy it arrives new with.
Please feel free to message me with any questions, or give me a ring (cell is on my profile page). I will be posting this local as well as on TGP.
