Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a gorgeous older Turner 22X crystal microphone from the 1950's. This heavily deco inspired "bullet mic" with satin chrome finish makes this one of the most widely recognized Turner microphones ever produced. This mic comes with a short vintage Belden 8401 model cable in which to operate.
Pic # 2 is from a 1949 Turner catalog showing their line up and some basic specs on these mics. In 1950 the 22 series mic came with the same lower badge that you see on the Turner 33D from the same ad.
The 22 series came in several different styles over the years with the only changes coming in the lower half that carried the Turner badge and the type of element used. The 22 microphone either had the crystal element or the Dynamic element. All 22X's carried the crystal element which did not hold up as well over the past 70 years.
It should be stated that this mic came with a dead crystal element so I took liberties to remove it and installed a vintage Shure 533SA dynamic element. These older dynamic elements are omni-directional, very sturdy and rugged and have a great tone for use with a harmonica. The high Z setting has a dirtier tone that's void of bass and has blistering overdrive. You can really get up on these mics and give it all you got. This will also make an excellent mic if you are looking for a "rockabilly" sound for vocals. If you're in a band or recording and want an original old school sound then this mic will do you justice. It sounds just like the original crystal element but on steroids.
Even if you choose not to use this mic it will make an excellent display or prop piece because of it's museum quality finish.
They just don't come any nicer than this. There is basically no wear as seen in the pics provided. The front grill is free of tarnish or dents and the inner black cloth screen is perfect. I would give a this mic a true 9 ++ on a scale of 1 - 10.
The threading for the cable and mic stand are perfect. No issues. The joint mechanism has plenty of tension as well holding the head of the mic firmly in place. Solid inside and out this mic was built to last.
The mic comes with a vintage Belden 8401 model cable that has the newer Switchcraft male XLR end connector. The cable itself is just 7 inches long. Soft pliable and in excellent condition. Simply leave the short cable screwed onto the mic then attach any longer XLR cable when needed as an extension. Far more practical and it will keep you from doing any damage to the threads on the mic.
MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
