HH Scott 299A Stereo Tube Integrated Amplifier With Custom Mahogany Case!

For sale is a fully restored HH Scott 299A 20WPC tube integrated amplifier. This amp design has famously beefy output transformers for the 7189 output tubes with great overall bandwidth, huge bass, perfect balance and amazingly clear, musical highs. The stereo imaging on this amp is second to none and there is not a genre of music that this amp can't handle! The phono stage is excellent as well. There is nothing this amp doesn't do very well after the thorough restoration. We could go on and on about the performance but even a quick Google search will show that these are famously great performers once restored properly!

Cosmetically the unit is in nice shape overall with some face wear - specifically some marks on the bottom edge for the amp. The case is a custom made for this specific amp veneered mahogany with a hardwood mahogany face trim. Please study the detailed pics carefully!

For the amp restoration, this unit received an incredibly extensive rebuild. The entire power supply was rebuilt from the ground up using the best parts from Nichicon and Panasonic. We carefully chose these parts for the lowest noise, best bass performance and of course long service life. The bias circuit was redesigned to be like that of the later Scott amps (with adjustable bias and balance for each channel) which allows for the best fidelity and longest tube life. All old film capacitors were replaced with Panasonic ECQ because in these Scott amps specifically they are types that are known to become leaky and fail. Then all resistors and other parts are checked and replaced if they have drifted from heat or age. We strive to respect the originality of these old designs as much as possible while making it reliable for daily use without worry. The original can caps are disconnected internally but left in place to maintain the original look. The new long life, 105 degree C rated capacitors are discretely wired in internally. Each power tube has a 10ohm 1/4W resistor on the cathode to make biasing this amp very simple!
This amp has a beautiful vintage copper post GE 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier and the power tubes are the ultra tough and fantastic sounding Russian 6N14N-EV. All preamp tubes are Telefunken 12AX7 and the phase inverter has a fresh pair of RCA labeled 6BL8 tubes. A thermistor is added both to slow start the amp (helps preserve the power switch as well) and to reduce the typically high modern wall voltages. This amp is setup to truly be plug and play ready to go.
