Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

If you are looking for something a little different than you might want to consider this very unique and rare Altec D80C model dynamic cardioid microphone with High impedance setting. The mic has what I would describe as a strong, clear tone and will be good for general broadcasting or singing if you want an old school flair with less bass than the mics typically used today. It comes with the period Altec mic clip shown.

This mic has a little weight to it being an all metal construction and built like a tank. It has a very modern mid century design and is very appealing to the eye. Bold and elegant at the same time.

As you know Altec built very high quality microphones and this is no exception. It was actually manufactured in Austria and I have a feeling this mic was actually built by AKG because of the front metal screen. AKG was notorious for selling this exact style but in a smaller gold scheme and to my knowledge AKG was the only company to do so. It was most likely a collaboration between the two companies. A very attractive black finish as well. Regardless, this is a rare mic and the only example I have come across in my 8 years of doing this.

Mic is appx 6 3/4 inches long X 1 1/2 inch wide at the widest part of the bezel on the bottom of the tip

As you can see in the detailed pics provided this mic is in excellent overall condition. The original satin chrome finish is free of any scuff marks, scratches or corrosion. The front screen has no tarnish but there is a very small, subtle dent on the very tip or edge of the front of the screen. The XLR pins were cleaned as well ensuring a strong connection / signal. I would rate the true cosmetic condition of this mic an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate it higher.

The unique and stylish Altec mic clip will screw onto any desk or floor stand you might use. Plenty of tension in the joint mechanism and it's adjustable with any flat head screwdriver. Shows typical lite scuff marks but no fractures.

The mic takes a standard XLR cable though none is provided. They are easy enough to find.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTO IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR SCALING AND DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
