About This Listing

This is a Gibson V2 model from 1979. Natural walnut finish with the unique V2 carve and layered wood “pancake” effect in the carves. It has the back mounted controls so doesn’t have the longer unsightly Pickguard down the lower bout that some later models do. Generally this guitar is in very good played condition - it has had a life and some interesting background that we are still researching. I am selling this guitar for the widow of a sadly deceased former customer of mine. She cannot recall where he bought it from in the late 80s but recalls travelling to Buckinghamshire and picking the guitar up from someone who was a famous and well known rock guitarist at the time and her husband didn’t shut up about owning the guitar previously owned by “X”. Unfortunately the lady who is selling this guitar cannot recall who the mystery guitar hero was other than he lived in a grand house with a sports car and a Mercedes in the drive. Ok that snippet of info over some things about the guitar - it’s all original with original case. Condition wise it has been extensively played and used so there is significant buckle rash on the back shown in photos and some small marking to the top and the back of the neck (also shown). No evidence of any neck or headstock breakages and serial number checks out to 1979. One of only 157 shipped by Gibson in 79 and Gibsons 3rd most expensive guitar at the time. PM me if there is anything else you’d like to know or see photos wise. We have had the pickup rings and bridge replated as with most 70s Gibsons the gold plate had literally “fallen off” and to be fair it looked dreadful. The bridge was in the case as the guitar had no strings on when it arrived and there is another spare Gibson Patent Numbered gold plated bridge in the case. So either way one is the original. The neck is nice and playable and it’s just had a set up - there is more that could be done to get this great guitar back to fully mint condition but we didn’t want to muck about with it too much - it comes with original case and the handle is inside the case box as it has come off. For a late 70s Gibson these are going up in price at the moment as there aren’t too many available especially in the U.K. / Europe. Because this is a commission sale on behalf of a former customer’s family I am happy to consider reasonable offers around the 10% below asking price area so have left offers open for the time being - “I’ll give ya” or “£2500 that’s my best” isn’t appropriate here. I have a fair few other photos if a serious buyer wishes to view them
