After the Second World War, the "King Super 20" model was launched based on the "King Zephyr Special" model. In the early years the Gis / Cis / H / B record (little left finger) was still built like American vintage saxophones. From around 1951 (approx. Serial no. 305 000) the record of the Selmer Balanced Action was taken over and the playability was noticeably improved and this models are the sought after King S20! The King Super 20 ... are known as ... of the most legendary Jazz horns ever produced... and they are JAZZ horns: a big bell, big bore and a wide-open, cutting sound. A lot of people like the Selmer better, and it may be better for an all-around horn, but the King Super 20 is the horn to play in the jazz arena! Bold, brilliant, resonant and powerful, this horn is the epitome of the famous King Super 20 sound that so many legends played on back in the day. Yusef Lateef, Cannonball Adderly, Johnny Griffin, Wardell Gray, James Moody, Hank Mobley, Harold Land, Joe Maini, Charlie Ventura, Stan Getz (during his Bossa Nova period) and hosts of other legendary horn-men made their unique and moving sound on these horns. This excellent original gold lacquered King Super 20 Full Pearl Tenor is one of the most exquisite specimens of a Tenor I've ever come across. The horn has been treated very well. This is a "Series II" with the more ergonomic left pinky cluster (SN 339'xxx) from 1955. Mother of pearl key and roles, sunburst engraving on the bell keys, double-socket sterling silver neck and all in the most beautiful saxophone case ever built! Lacquer is in pristine condition both on the body and keys. One very small dent on the bottom bow (pict. 10). The neck is perfect (with matching SN), no pull-down. The pads are older, but can be played very well from bottom to top tunes. The pictures in the main list tell the rest of the story - what do you want more? I am convinced that the prices of the Series II will only go up because the instruments of this best series are very rare and even more rarely offered in this condition. These King Saxophones and Cases were made in such a high quality that they exceeded the production costs and are looking for their kind! ...perhaps, if you are interested, see the other listing. I also sell a matching King Super 20 Alto (SN 336xxx) from 1954, perfect totally overhauled - together, it would be a dream couple!
