This Violin was made around 1790ca. It is a very powerful instrument perfect for the professional violinist. I recently had it restored and appraised by master luthier, Rodger Stearns. His restoration is impeccable. He evaluated as Chappuy shop appraised at $18,000. He recently had one for sale around $24,000 that has sold. The record sale of a Chappuy is $56,760 for a cello. The Violin has a beautiful pinned upper/lower two piece back with beautiful Patina. The top is just stunning! Lots of Patina and beautiful elongated f-holes. I’ve personally owned and handled thousands of Violins selling around 250 last year. In my personal opinion of owning a lot of great Violins, this Violin is near the top! It carries a beautiful powerful tone with lots of color. The Violin is easy to play. It has a wonderful neck angle. It is a player’s dream! I’ve played on millions of dollars of Violins in my time, all I can say is the sound it has I wouldn’t trade for many of those though they are great investment vehicles. The tailpiece has our shop logo as an actual nearly 2,000 year old Roman coin of supposed ancestor, “Antonius Probus” 276AD. I am now putting those on high end Violins that pass through our shop.
