Completely rebuilt on 6/23/2019 and over 90+ % new. The chassis and power transformer, heatsinks, speaker outputs and power switch/cord are original parts, everything else is new and upgraded to give this vintage amp a better sound, improved reliability and something very unique you can show your friends. Brand new, regulated, slow start, specially designed power supply, new amplifier boards and all new components on them, all new "dynamite" capacitors, meticulous wiring and there is now a volume control so you can use this as a stand alone unit with a CD Player, cassette deck or phono with a preamp. The volume control is a tried and true fully tested add on that works beautifully, I have built several of these and they work excellent. This little giant killer is a monster in disguise. It's super clean, very cool and sounds like a 60 watt per channel analog amplifier should.

Original bad boy DYNACO ( Tresco) FA704 Power Transformer, massive legendary reliability. 

Original Dynaco transformers were made by Tresco in Philadelphia, PA. David Hafler owned stock in this company during the heyday of Dynaco's early years.

Hand wired with all new wiring. All 3 PCB circuit boards and every capacitor are brand new & specially selected upgrades just for the Dynaco Stereo 120.

A volume control was added for stand alone use with for instance a bluetooth adapter, cell phone, CD player or tape deck etc. It is a brand new part. A very cool feature!

Tested and "burned in" for over 10 hours, it's rock solid!

Each of the new components were chosen specifically to improve the overall quality, sound and reliability of this 120 watt amplifier.

Output capacitance has been increased using the "Dynamite" capacitor configuration, it improves bass output and overall response considerably. 

The original stock value of capacitor C12 was 3,300 uF, this really wasn't big enough to get the maximum amount of low frequency power out of a Stereo 120. 

The new C12 capacitor configuration consists of (3) 6,800 uF 80 Volt caps wired in parallel to produce an explosive 20,400 uF. Pure Clean Power.

The original speaker coupling caps (C7) were a bit on the small side, at 3300 uF each. 

This amp now uses (6) 3,300 uF capacitors arranged in (2) "Dynamite" parallel triples, one for each channel. This C7 coupling cap upgrade yields 9,900 uF per channel, again producing better bass, more bass power, and lower bass distortion.

These capacitance increases made necessary the upgrading of certain ancillary components to make this all work properly, maintain long life and produce higher performance so a completely new electronically controlled power supply unit has been added. It features slow start with predictable current limiting, short circuit protection, accurate output voltage, super low output impedance, and a lower noise design, it's a greatly improved design compared to the original.

Both Output / Amplifier boards are brand new and have specially selected capacitors, resistors and other related components on them bringing this amp to a whole new level of accuracy and performance. 

All 4 output / power transistors are brand new pieces resting on the original aluminum heatsinks.

4 brand new original style feet installed.

Original 2 prong power cord was in good condition and was retained.

Both input RCA jacks were replaced with brand new higher quality pieces, nickel silver in color just like the originals were.  

The original mirror finished chassis cleaned up great, very little oxidation or pitting. 

Cover is original looks very nice and still has its Original Dynaco factory label 

One of the great design features of these upgrades is that everything inside is in the same location as was originally. Everything uses the same original brackets and mounting holes and it all wires up identical to the original.

This amp can run any speakers rated from 4Ω up to 16Ω (Ohms), simply hook them up. Just make sure they are each power rated for at least the real 60 watts per channel this amp produces.

This is simply a Fun and Fantastic Sounding Vintage Amplifier!

Nothing has been done to change the sound, but simply to increase the amps ability to amplify, with more accuracy, less distortion and better response. This amp is better than new and also much more reliable now. It is a pleasure to hear and very easy to use. Adding the volume control also brought extended versatility and even more fun to this amp and it works just perfectly, it is a tried and true upgrade, not just a one off experiment. With the added volume control, you can now run a CD player or tape deck directly off this amp or with a small phono preamp or a vinyl player with a built in preamp, you could use a turntable directly attached to this amp too.

Although this amplifier is upgraded and slightly modified it is not such a radical departure as to leave the unit unserviceable by any means. All replacement components / parts that were used are common, modern, and readily available components. All of the circuit boards have the component values printed on them as well and you will also receive all of the manuals and schematics and related documentation for the amplifier and for all of the upgraded components for your reference or any future service needs
