Collings mandolins are built with the finest seasoned Spruce and maple. Each piece is the work of master luthiers in Austin Texas. Most people think of an A-Style as an entry level mandolin. Pick this mandolin up and you will see there is nothing entry-level about it. Collings places equal emphasis on tone, "fit and finish" and playability no matter the price point.
Normally an MT has satin throughout. However, this Collings MT features a custom gloss finish on the Torrefied Sitka Spruce top which warms the tone a bit, creating an impressive balance of openness, projection and solid midrange warmth with a dry, woody tonal character. It provides an extremely quick response for softer, more delicate passages, yet offers plenty of head room to dig in for a throaty, bluegrass bark. To compliment the sunburst gloss this also has custom ivoroid bindings accented with custom black and white purfling lines. The matching ivoroid buttons give it a stunning look. The back and sides and neck are made of hand selected Eastern Flamed Maple.
Once you have this in your hands you will notice details like the clean F-Holes on the top that were cut after the finish was applied to ensure a thin, even finish across the top and exceptionally elegant lines. The soundholes are paired with dual tone bar bracing for excellent projection and bright articulate tone.
