Recording King was originally founded by the mail order company Montgomery Ward, who sold guitars, mandolins and banjoes to the US country population during the early 1930s under the Recording King name. The 1930s represent in many ways a golden age in instrument building - a period that resulted in some of the most respected and sought after string instruments.
Recording King builds guitars and banjoes based on the string instruments of the 20s and 30s, inspired by the outstanding craftsmanship and innovative design that instruments of this era are so distinguished exponents for. Recording King revives an instrument builder tradition, which has been greatly overlooked over the past decades and uses it to create some of the most successful and beautiful instruments.
