Originally launched in 2006, Mapex´s QR Series kits sit comfortably beneath the company´s highly regarded VX Series. The eight-ply basswood shells are 7.2mm thick, providing lightweight handling with a warm, thunderous resonance. Small, low-mass lugs are complimented by Mapex's I.T.S. suspension system, which affix to each rack tom with ease and leave an amazingly small aesthetic footprint.
The kit has a look and feel that is more commonly found on the next tier up. Mapex's long experience in making drums means that the individual components have been put together well and the fittings lock in harmoniously. Wooden bass drum hoops and a breathtaking black sparkle finish top off this kit's classic appeal. Ideal for the serious beginner or the journeyman player looking for a second kit to gig with, it's difficult to find much to criticise about the QR Series.
Cosmetically, this kit is nearly flawless with only the kind of minor wear that you'd expect with age. All lugs and mounts are intact, shining bright and adjusting smoothly. The entire kit has been fully serviced in-house and tuned to perfection with brand new heads. An extremely versatile 14" snare offers sharp crispness on the attack and precise clarity in its resonance, a perfect blend of punch and roundness while retaining its signature Mapex sound. The traditional 22" bass drum is only 18" in depth, meaning a tight response with clear lows that don't wander out of control. The toms can tune down to a surprising degree without overstaying their welcome toward any unwanted resonance.
