bowlback MANDOLIN
made of all solid quality tonwoods in Mirecourt / France (!) by the Humbert Frères around the beginning 20th century
-about 61cm total length, scale lenght about 33cm
- solid quality spruce top with multiple wooden purfling edge and binding ,
Inlayed quality scratchplate with decors made of pearl and celluloide, with a nice oval ebony soundhole rosette with inlayed pearl ornaments surrounded by wooden purfling edges
- solid best quality bowlback body, made of 17 segments + shell
wide at bout about 21cm, bodies depht about 14cm
- U- shaped neck with shafted-on / grafted headstock, quality fingerboard with pearl dots, 22 frets, original bone nut, width at nut: 30mm
original tuners with bone knobs
- layed-on bridge (probably not original)
- original tailpiece with strap support
The mandolin is in good original condition and fully playable with good string action (1,8mm E at 12th fret)
Solved glue between two bowlback segments was renewed in an earlier repair (--> Please see pictures). The job was well done, the body is seal and sounds
Otherwise, there are NO cracks or other damages on this fine piece
The original shellac varnish is in good contion with some harmless signs of the time
Fingerboard and frets are showing no signs of wear. The frets have been rounded , the fingerboard was cleaned and oiled
