Starting in the 1880s, Washburn of Illinois has churned out a massive array of string instruments. Early on, Washburn built mostly banjos and mandolins before branching into acoustic and electric guitars. In the '80s and '90s, Washburn produced a variety of shredder signature guitars, while recent years have seen models that cover a wide spectrum of styles. Today, Washburn continues to build beginner-friendly guitars including the popular D10 series along with mandolins, banjos and more.
