Overview
The flagship synthesizer released by Roland in 2015, the JD-Xa features a hybrid design combining four voices of analog synthesis in tandem with a flexible digital synth architecture. The analog voices each feature two independent oscillators, with four assignable envelopes, two LFOs and a variety of filters including classic low-pass ladder designs and multi-mode options. The digital section is based around Roland's superNATURAL technology, which bridges the gap between sample-based playback and physical modeling synthesis. A mic input is included for classic vocoder sounds or more adventurous patch modulation. Finally, a full featured multi-effects section rounds out the extensive sound design options. Mirroring the combination of analog style controls with futuristic looks, the JD-Xa is equally at home emulating classic synths, filling in orchestral voices or pushing the boundaries of cutting edge digital synthesis.
