Mo Says... A pocket-sized passport to Jupiter country. The JP-08 packs Roland’s celebrated Jupiter-8 character into a hands-on Boutique module, with plenty of sliders, modulation and unmistakable vintage polysynth flavour.Notable ParticularsCompact Roland Boutique recreation inspired by the legendary Jupiter-8 synthesizerHands-on control panel with extensive sliders and knobs for fast, intuitive sound shapingDual-oscillator architecture with cross modulation, oscillator sync, PWM and flexible modulationBuilt-in sequencer plus patch memories for creating and recalling sounds and patternsSupplied with original packaging and Roland Boutique dock as picturedThe DetailsThe Roland JP-08 brings the architecture and character of the mighty Jupiter-8 into the wonderfully compact Boutique format. The original Jupiter has become one of the great monuments of analogue synthesis, but thankfully the JP-08 requires neither a second mortgage nor a reinforced keyboard stand. Its densely packed front panel offers direct control over the essentials, including dual oscillators, cross modulation, oscillator sync, pulse-width modulation, high-pass and low-pass filtering, two envelopes, LFO and amplifier controls. The result is an impressively broad sonic territory, from silky pads and shimmering chords to muscular basses, brassy stabs, leads and gloriously retro electronic textures.Despite its diminutive dimensions, the JP-08 offers useful modern conveniences including patch memories and a built-in sequencer. The familiar Jupiter-style panel encourages hands-on programming rather than endless menu excavation, making it equally appealing for studio sound design and compact performance rigs. This example is supplied with its original Roland JP-08 packaging and the Roland Boutique dock/enclosure shown in the photographs. The dock provides a smart, substantial home for the module and allows it to be positioned at a convenient playing angle. For anyone chasing classic Roland polysynth territory without accommodating a vintage leviathan, the JP-08 is a particularly charming little time machine.
