Who doesn't love a black Les Paul custom? From Blues to Metal, this guitar fits right in no matter what genre you play.Greco guitars from this era are almost synonymous with the Fuijgen Gakki factory, but in 1989 and 1990, Greco had a few models - mainly the EGC-600, EG-600, and SS-600 - made by Tokai, like this one. You can tell the Tokai build by the pickup and control cavity shapes, neck tenon shape and size, along with the fret edge binding (which Fujigen stopped around 1983/84), split diamond headstock inlay, and a few other differences.Greco had 3 catalogs in 1990 - and this model was first named the EGC-600, then the EGC-75, and then back to the ECG-600. This guitar has no model sticker, and no serial number, so there's no way to know which one it is - but they're essentially the same. I am dating this one based on the 02 and 03 date stamps on the pots, indicating it was built on or after March 1990.This guitar arrived to me with a broken neck tone pot, missing knobs, and it had a non original bridge pickup installed. I replaced the broken neck tone pot with a new Alpha 500K audio taper pot (same as the original), installed a new set of black witch hat knobs from Japan (same as the originals), and installed a similar era Greco SCREAMIN humbucker into the bridge that I sourced from Japan (same as the original). Other than these items, everything else on this guitar appears to be original, and overall this guitar is in good player grade condition.Being a gloss block guitar, it shows every single ding, dent, scratch, chip and swirl - and this one has its fair share over the entire guitar, front, back, sides, neck and headstock. It has been played, a lot, but not abused.Fitted with 2 unmarked Greco SCREAMIN humbuckers, these pickups are aptly named - they can scream! There are lower wind pickups, similar to a PAF, measuring between 7.45K & 7.46K ohm, but with a standard thickness ceramic magnet giving it a lot more power inside of a gold cover that has been wax potted (Note: I did not remove the covers on these humbuckers, but I am basing this off other SCREAMIN humbuckers I have owned). They are very clear and articulate, but can handle fast playing really well. The mids and highs are very present, and the low end is big and focused. They can clean up well when you roll down the volume, but can easily shred as well. There is a reason why these pickups have a following. The original gold hardware, including the pickup covers & pole pieces, bridge, tailpiece, tuners, pickguard bracket and screws are all in fair shape, with some areas of pitting, corrosion, tarnish, peeling, and/or rust on them, but there is lots of shine left in some areas. Everything works as expected: the bridge saddles move freely, and the tuners are work well. The patina on the hardware is consistent, and gives it that vintage "mojo".Although it's hard to tell under the solid black finish, the guitar is made with what appears to be a 2 piece maple top on a 2 piece mahogany back, with a 1 piece mahogany neck, using the Tokai neck tenon shape. The neck itself has a nice carve - it's a nice medium U carve starting out at 21.8mm thick at the 1st fret and widening to 24.8mm at the 12th fret. This one also features a beautiful rosewood fretboard that has a lovely grain all the way up the board, along with acrylic pearloid block inlays, and fret edge binding - this feature was only found on Tokai made EGC's in 1990.The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, with play wear across the fretboard, mainly on the plain strings on the 1st to 12th fret, but overall there's lots of life left in these frets, and the guitar plays incredibly well and sounds great up and down the entire fretboard. All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).Comes with a new quality made Profile G05TX gig bag.Overall, this is classic looking Greco Les Paul custom from the desirable Mint Collection era that looks, plays and sounds amazing. If you're looking for an great Japanese made Les Paul Custom, you'll want this EGC-600 in your collection today.CONDITION ------------Overall it's in good player grade shape.I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description. The bridge humbucker, neck tone pot, knobs, and one of the neck pickup ring mounting screws are not original.Over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, back of the neck and front, back and sides of the headstock, there are many significant dings, dents, scratches, chips, and swirling in the gloss black finish. There is a larger scratched by the logo on the face of the headstock, and there are areas of hazing or cloudiness on the face of the headstock. There is a large chip in the finish on the back of the headstock on the low E side. This is only in the finish - the wood is not cracked. This chip is behind the nut, so you don't feel it when playing (unless for some reason you place your hand behind the nut?)There is a deep dent in the back of the neck on the high E side under the 14th fret. There are some chips in the finish along the top edge of the headstock, along with the side of the body. There are some common deeper scratches in the finish around the selector switch and knobs. There is what looks like a dent in the fretboard on the 18th fret by the high E string. It does not affect playing. When the guitar arrived to me, one of the neck pickup ring mounting screws was broken off inside the body. That screw is flush with the body so that the ring mounts normally, and does not affect installation of the neck pickup ring. That screw has been replaced with a similar screw as the original. The patina on the hardware is consistent, and gives it that vintage "mojo".All of the black plastics on the front and back of the guitar have typical scratches and swirling on them. All of the original unbranded Japanese made gold sealed tuners work well.Around the strap buttons there's some strap marks/swirling.The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, with play wear across the fretboard, mainly on the plain strings on the 1st to 12th fret, but overall there's lots of life left in these frets, and the guitar plays incredibly well and sounds great up and down the entire fretboard. There is no signs of a headstock, heel or any other major repair. The truss rod works as expected with room in both directions.SHIPPING ------------ Every shipment is expertly packed with great care and includes tracking, signature required on delivery, and full insurance coverage for both the purchase price and shipping.Every guitar is fully wrapped in bubble wrap, in a cardboard box meant for guitars, with proper support inside.
