Classic ISA character, with modern controlBoth ISA microphone preamps are based on Lundahl LL1538 input transformers and deliver precisely the sound for which the ISA series has been prized for years: subtle warmth, greater richness and a pleasantly confident sound. Yet they are not limited to vintage nostalgia; instead, they can be fully controlled via the front panel or using Focusrite Control 2.With up to 79 dB of gain, switchable impedance, a high-pass filter, balanced inserts and precise gain control, the two ISA channels are designed for serious recording work. This provides a very solid foundation, particularly for vocals, acoustic guitars, ribbon microphones or high-quality DI signals.New sound options with Console and 430 AirThe two ISA preamps also offer Console mode and 430 Air mode. In Console mode, an analogue soft-clip circuit provides greater saturation, body and rich bass. 430 Air adds a silky sheen to the high-frequency range and is sonically modelled on the ISA 430 MkII.This allows the fundamental character of a signal to be shaped very deliberately right from the input stage. The ISA C8X is therefore not only neutral and precise, but can also be used to significantly shape the sound if desired. Six additional preamps for flexible multi-channel sessionsIn addition to the two ISA channels, there are six remotely controllable, extremely low-noise Focusrite microphone preamps. They deliver 69 dB of transparent gain, capture even the finest nuances cleanly and are perfect for drum set-ups, ensemble recordings, multi-channel tracking or additional microphone sources in everyday studio work.Here, too, there are sonic options: analogue Air mode for more open highs, and variable Drive DSP for harmonic saturation in the style of classic analogue circuits.Two transformer-coupled instrument inputsFor guitar, bass and other instruments, there are two instrument inputs on the front panel, which also run through the Lundahl transformers. This means that DI signals also benefit from the characterful ISA signal path. The selectable impedance further helps to optimally match the sound of the connected instrument.This is a real advantage, particularly when recording guitars and basses directly, as it allows you to influence the playing feel and tone shaping much more consciously. New features for workflow and everyday studio useAuto Gain for quick level set-upsWith Auto Gain, the ISA C8X automatically adjusts the gain of all eight preamps in a matter of seconds. This saves time during set-up, speeds up session changes and is particularly helpful when switching between artists or set-ups. The function can be activated directly on the unit or via Focusrite Control 2.Focusrite Control 2 for remote control and recallIf the interface isn’t within easy reach, Focusrite Control 2 takes over. The desktop and mobile apps allow you to conveniently manage gain, routing, monitoring, mixes and recall settings remotely. Multiple compatible Focusrite devices can also be controlled together, making the ISA C8X particularly appealing for larger or expandable setups.Line inputs for permanently wired outboard setupsThe eight balanced line inputs with fixed gain are clearly designed for patchbay workflows and permanent studio cabling. Outboard gear can be integrated once and remains immediately available without the need for constant re-plugging. In day-to-day use, this is often more valuable than it might initially appear on the spec sheet.Converters, monitoring and studio hubThe ISA C8X features 24-bit / 192 kHz AD/DA conversion on a par with the Focusrite RedNet series. With a dynamic range of 125 dB and 0.00022% THD, the technical specifications are clearly professional-grade. Added to this are 12 balanced line outputs, enabling set-ups ranging from mono to 7.1.4, including three monitor groups and convenient switching.There are also two dedicated Class AB headphone outputs with independent volume control, additional headroom and optimised impedance. Digitally expandable for large-scale productionsThose who need more channels or digital integration have plenty of options.
