For this week's episode of our Funky Vintage series, we were lucky enough to borrow a super rare Crumar Cougar organ from our friends over at Rock 'n' Roll Vintage here in Chicago. (Be sure to check out their Reverb Shop to see all of the great gear they have on offer.)
Accordions rang supreme throughout most of the 19th century. But as organs picked up in popularity throughout the 20th, lots of Italian brands—Eko, Farfisa, and Crumar, to name just a few—embraced the technology and focused in on producing some very cool instruments.
This Crumar Cougar—dressed in white, which is even rarer than red—is a suitcase-style, solid-state drawbar organ that's portable for what it is and durable for taking on the road. It's super vibey, versatile, and can be a great additional texture to your setup if you happen to be lucky enough to find one.
Be sure to check out the full video above to hear all of the different sounds a Crumar Cougar can make. If you like what you hear, add the Crumar Cougar to your Watch List to be the first to know when one is listed on Reverb.
