Starting today, Reverb is running a 15% off sale exclusive to Europe that’ll run through Monday, February 26. Since only European shops are included in the sale, Europe-based buyers won’t have to worry about import fees or transatlantic shipping costs. Of course, everyone is welcome to purchase these amazing bits of gear.
The sale is packed with pages and pages of exceptional guitars, excellent effects, sweet synths, and more, but what really caught our attention when perusing the pages of the sale were some of the vintage amplifiers on offer.
From a historic ‘66 Vox UL4120 “Beatles” amp head, to a rare Twin AC10, to a small Burns transistor amp, and a rare Jennings J40 in great condition, the list below highlights some of the coolest vintage amps we found for sale in Europe right now.
Be sure to take advantage of the sale if you’re looking for something new, and let us know what you thought of our picks in the comments below.
Beloved by many, British boutique amp builder Matamp has been making sought-after, high-quality amplifiers since the 1960s. This 1972 Matamp GT100 head and matching 1x15 cabinet holds the low serial number of #250, making its excellent condition even more impressive. It’s also sold with the promise that it has been fully serviced to safe and playable standards by one of the Music Locker’s talented amp techs.
Shop Now on ReverbThis is a killer little ‘70s PA amplifier from Sound City. It’s basically a 120 R but in the PA format, with six channels. Not many were made in this format, so it’s also a rarity.
Shop Now on ReverbThis Selmer combo was only in production for two years, from 1963 to ‘65, making it another rare specimen on this list. The Truvoice was Selmer’s premier line of amps, and this player-grade vintage ‘63 Zodiac Twin Thirty Truvoice is still packed with the original, mystical-sounding Celestion G12s that delighted players decades ago.
Shop Now on ReverbThis is an almost all-original Orange Matamp OR-100 valve amp from 1969. It’s in great condition, but at some point during its life, its main board was split. Despite not being a museum-quality amp, the listing still promises great sound from this little rarity.
Shop Now on ReverbThis 1966 Vox UL4120 JMI bass amp head is the rarest on this list, with only four or five units total said to be left in existence. This particular model is in in good condition and comes with a bonus, custom-made road case. The Beatles famously used Vox’s similar cousin “7 series”—specifically, the UL730—to record some of their most seminal albums.
Shop Now on ReverbThis is another cool little transistor amplifier, except with Matamp’s signature sound and quality. Other than a single capacitor replacement in 1982, this amp is all-original.
Shop Now on ReverbIn the ‘60s, the Vox AC10 Twin solidified its place in history as a solid workhorse in the studio. Today, though, AC10s are quite hard to find and highly coveted by fans of the classic British chime. The AC10 listed is loaded with a pair of cool alnico speakers and the rare triode/pentode ECF82 tube in the preamp and vibrato stage. Otherwise, you still get the classic Vox ECC83, EF86, and EL84.
Shop Now on ReverbThough Burns is most known its guitar and bass offerings, vintage combos (especially from the Orbit line) pop up here and there. This 40-watt 2x10 is the smallest of Burns’ Orbit line, with a vintage transistor output stage featuring an output transformer and a pair of really cool “Orbital” speakers.
Shop Now on ReverbThis vintage Jennings J40 2x12 combo was made in the UK in (according to the listing) 1970 or 1971 with a midrange boost advertised a sounding like a Vox Defiant, Conqueror, or Supreme.
Shop Now on ReverbAnother rarity from Selmer is this 1963 Futurama Bassist Major MK1. It’s a 15-watt amp that was only produced between 1963 and 1964, and this particular beast is in mint condition. It has also been fully serviced by an amp tech at the Music Locker.
