When your mission in life is to twist, bend, and generally explode the sound of a guitar to rebuild it like a sonic Frankenstein, you tend to look for inspiration. And then look for some more inspiration to heap on top of the first inspiration. And then repeat that process until your life is mountains of rusty, sputtery inspiration that may become a landslide of circuits that swallows Akron, Ohio. Or, all those pedals will wind up on shelves and get trotted out when the Reverb video team comes to town.
Such is the case in the above video where Jamie Stillman, founder of EarthQuaker Devices and all-around effect maven, walks us through his "problem area" of weird, wonderful, and rare gear.
A world of wonders is on display here (even if only 5% of them work). Staged with the general chorus from Jamie of "Why don't you work?", a veritable museum collection of effects from the past gets trotted out for a try. Some of the notable appearances include a Korg X-911 Guitar Synthesizer ("It's got trumpet, flute; I dunno, what else do you need?"), a blinding neon pink B.C. Rich Gunslinger purchased at the Gakki Music Fair ("Best $90 I have ever spent"), and some of the earliest EQD effects ever created like the Fantastic Beast and Spectre.
