Back in the early '90s, lead Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett convinced ESP to make him a guitar that incorporated graphics from Hasbro's classic Ouija game. This first guitar was a one-off for Hammett, made by ESP's Custom Shop in Japan cleverly using scissors, a copy machine, and a whole lot of creativity.
In 2010, ESP got the rights to sell the Ouija guitar to the public and have since released a few special and very limited edition batches of the coveted model. This listing is for a very special pair of Ouija models from the last drop announced in 2019—one of each new finish, Purple Sparkle and Red Sparkle, with gold Ouija graphics.
Only 30 guitars in each finish were made for this release, and what makes this particular duo even more special is that they have matching number 16 serial numbers.
These new finishes are based on the one-of-a-kind custom guitars Hammett shreds Metallica stages with. They offer neck-thru-body construction and an extra-thin, U-shaped maple neck, ebony fingerboard, and 24 extra-jumbo frets. The fingerboard is scalloped for frets 17-24 and features mother of pearl star and moon inlays. The body is packed with a set of EMG KH Bone Breaker pickups.
Both guitars come with their original Ouija case, a certificate of authenticity signed by Kirk Hammett, the factory build sheet from the ESP Custom Shop, and an 8x10 photo of Hammett with his own Sparkle Ouija.
