This is EVA Electronics' Phase Control System PHC-2.
This model is a phase switch mounted on the Sound Stabilizer SS-2, a buffer of the same manufacturer.
While obtaining optimum sound quality with a high quality buffer, by adjusting the phase, you can get a sound that comes through without being buried in the band ensemble.
Below is a description of the buffer and how it is used.
This is my impression of the sound when I simply connected the guitar to this unit and the amp.
The sound changes considerably, but it does not have any unpleasant peculiarities or a buffered feel, and the change is quite natural.
The sound image is clearer than when a guitar is connected directly to the amp, and the sense of overtones has increased.
When playing chords, you can now hear each string clearly and get a natural sense of separation.
Single notes have more bounce and firmness, and the sound enters the ear with greater clarity.
It is as if I were playing through a higher grade amp, and I realized that this is the true sound of the guitar and amp.
Connecting it in front of a true-bypass effect pedal also avoids the signal passing through the pedal in a high-impedance state when the effect pedal is off.
It also supports 18V drive, which improves the response of the sound and allows the effects described above to be felt even more strongly.
Next is the phase switching function, but I don't think you can feel much effect from this unit alone.
In fact, when I tried switching between phases, I could tell that something had changed, but I did not notice any significant change.
This function comes into its own when you actually play the sound in an ensemble.
Try switching the phase in a studio or at a live performance when other instruments are playing.
The way you hear it will be very different.
By matching the phase with other instruments, the sound will come out without increasing the volume and will not be buried.
The day you perform live with this pedal, you will not be able to live without it!
Here is the manufacturer's description
The Sound Stabilizer SS-2 is equipped with a phase switch.
When the switch is in the normal position, a signal with the same phase as the input signal is output from the output jack.
The input section has a built-in terminal for switching between high-impedance and low-impedance inputs.
By operating with the appropriate impedance depending on the connection location, it is possible to bring out the best performance from your equipment.
Recommended for phase switching of guitars, basses, keyboards, etc., and for phase switching of acoustic equipment.
It corresponds to +4db, which is the standard level of acoustic equipment.
Unbalanced connection is required for use with instrument amplifiers and non-balanced audio equipment.
The signal is output in low impedance.
Input impedance: HI or LO (switchable)
Output impedance: LO
Voltage: 9 to 18V
Power supply: Battery or external power supply
Size: 65(W)x116(D)x32.4(H)
