1986 Ibanez Musician MC2940 Fretless Vintage Active Bass w/ Case, Hangtags

Up for sale, a 1986 Ibanez Musician MC2940 fretless bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Built from 1979-1987, the much-lauded Ibanez Musician basses were known for their use by artists including Sting, Adam Clayton of U2, and John McVie of Fleetwood Mac.

Essentially a fretless version of the MC2924, this bass features five-piece maple/walnut neck-through construction with ash body wings and a slab ebony fingerboard, ensuring a rich, balanced acoustic profile with exquisite note attack and treble articulation. These qualities are faithfully translated by the LO-B low impedance pickups. Warm and full-sounding with thick low end, the LO-B pickups also offer plenty of glassy treble and broad midrange growl. The active EQ-BII two-band EQ offers additional tonal sculpting, and the pickups are governed by a center detent Blend control. This bass weighs 9lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with D’Addario Chromes 45-100 flatwound strings and easy-playing action.

The gloss Walnut finish has some minor dings and finish scuffs from careful use, largely clustered along the lower bout perimeter and on the back, as well as faint buckle rash central to the back. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is pristine.

The original Ibanez-branded gray tolex hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags. The handle has been reattached at one end, and the case lid features new foam on the interior.
